Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate North East's Vande Bharat Express on May 29

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the first Vande Bharat Express connecting the North East region on Monday. The inaugural ceremony will take place at 12 noon as the train embarks on its journey from Guwahati railway station. This high-speed train will link Guwahati with New Jalpaiguri, reducing the travel time by approximately one hour compared to the current fastest train on this route.

The Vande Bharat Express is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, offering passengers a comfortable and swift travel experience. It is expected to contribute to the development of tourism in the region. The journey between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri will now be completed in just 5 hours and 30 minutes, a significant improvement over the previous travel time of 6 hours and 30 minutes.

In addition to inaugurating the Vande Bharat Express, the Prime Minister will also dedicate a 182 km route of a newly electrified section. This electrification initiative will enable pollution-free transportation and facilitate trains to operate at higher speeds, thereby reducing travel time. Furthermore, this development will enable the entry of electric traction trains into Meghalaya, bringing enhanced connectivity to the region.

The newly electrified section will greatly benefit the maintenance of DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) rakes in the region, resulting in improved operational feasibility. Overall, these initiatives demonstrate the government's commitment to modernizing railway infrastructure and promoting efficient and sustainable transportation in the North East region.
